In 2008 I read a report on discrimination against widows.
Approximately 100 million widows worldwide are being discriminated against. This was the reason I started a photographic documentary project about the plight of widows worldwide.
Not only in developing countries, but also in developed countries the 'simple' fact is that when women become widows, they are being treated differently and often this is not the way they deserve to be treated. The treatment differs from nation to nation, from continent to continent and from culture to culture.
I am an independent documentary photographer from The Netherlands, who would like to find as many stories about widows as possible, to discover their hidden problems. To photographically document what it means to be a widow and tell their stories.
