This is a photo documentary blog about special women. Women who, one way or another, lost their husband. It tells how 'being a widow' changes their lives. It tells how different societies and cultures treat widows. I photographically collect their stories to create awareness of their plight.

Widows in Spain
Widows in Spain receive only € 450 or less widow's pension each month. For many of them not even enough to pay their rent....According to attached article of 2008, widows in Barcelona used to demonstrate in the streets each month to get the attention of the Spanish Government for their situation: http://afronline.org/news/viewprint/86803
I am preparing a project on these widows in Barcelona.

Widows in India: Gomti
This is Gomti, she is one of the first widows I photographed, two years ago, in India. She was 20 years old when she became a widow, left with two children of 6 and 3 years old. At first she did not know how to survive, she had no food during the first 15 days, until aid workers found her.
Gomti inspires me to work on this project. I have this photograph on my desktop and every time I start or quit working, she looks at me with her questioning but also fierce eyes, as if she wants to say: 'Please listen to my story.....'
